After nine years of care, the daughter seeks a Thursday sitter but cannot pay the standard rate. Her posting records sixty-one views, zero applications, and removal under code four. A woman nevertheless arrives on Thursday, turns the mother carefully, and gives the daughter an hour outside. The board does not explain how this helper found the address or who sent her.

The home then accommodates a proposed hiring process. The helper asks for a key; the daughter takes down the spare. Applications arrive for occupied Office posts, whose current workers must also apply. The daughter is offered the choices Retain and Dismiss. A clerk who formerly rejected her now arrives with his own pen. The process claims authority, but its full practical reach remains unproved.

The mother's handling gives the two visits different meanings. The helper begins by asking which side hurts and turns her without chilling the sheet. The clerk moves too quickly while the daughter falsely says her hands are wet. The mother catches his sleeve and demands, Ask me which side. She interrupts the arrangement being made around her. The reason that particular side matters is not supplied.
