A Systems Theory for Today

A living, forkable attempt to build a systems theory adequate to the present — by designed disagreement.

MOVE 7 — THE REPO-OPEN CHECKLIST AND CLOCK (draft for the author)

Version: 0.2 · Status: FULFILLED — the door opened at Session 4k, ahead of the 2026-10-01 default. The author decided to share the closed build with whoever might carry it (the founding wager enacted), and the checklist was cleared before the flip: a full privacy/safety/security audit passed (do-no-harm, privacy, security posture, copyright — no blockers; the author’s privacy pass done — a private side-project name genericized, the home AV/VPN detail generalized); item 1 resolved by DE-SEALING the placebo/ablation material with a transparency note (studies/README.md) rather than escrowing it — full transparency over a spent blind; licensing, honesty surfaces, and the logs/OPEN_QUESTIONS.md front door all in place. The checklist below is preserved as the record of what had to be true. (Opening the repository was the author’s own act — the visibility flip performed by the author, not by the executor.)

The clock (named default, per the ratified Fork 7: “opens by default if the window is missed”)

  • Default-open date: 2026-10-01 (one quarter from this draft). The author may move it earlier or later on the record; a date moved silently or repeatedly without a logged reason is the ossification signal this clock exists to expose.
  • Why the date matters doubly now: with the non-LLM appropriator deferred “to a future forker,” the opened repo is the only remaining road to a genuinely-foreign vantage — the thing every verdict’s cross-model-confirmed, not genuinely-foreign caveat is waiting for. Every quarter the repo stays shut, the project’s strongest claims stay n=1 of a kind (L-013).

The checklist (what must be true before opening)

  1. The blind survives the opening. The placebo/ablation verdicts must be collected BEFORE the repo opens — or the sealed files (studies/placebo-control/SEALED_COMPANION.md, the arm key, studies/placebo-control/EMPTY_PROMPT_SEALED.md’s attestation, the sealed margins) must be moved to a private escrow — because an open repo publishes the arm key and un-blinds any coder who looks. This is the hard sequencing constraint the clock must respect: verdicts first, or escrow first.
  2. The two-surfaces plan updates (docs/THE_LIVING_DOCUMENT.md §7): the private contribution surface becomes public; CONTRIBUTING.md’s three contribution types (strengthen / break / propose-rival) and the “recruit for the fault line” criterion are already in place ✓.
  3. Licensing ✓ (CC BY-SA 4.0 docs / MIT code — LICENSE.md).
  4. The honesty surfaces travel intact: the ledger honesty-notes, the plurality downgrade, DC-001…004, C-023’s delegation-cost — an opened repo that hid its self-doubts would falsify Theory C on day one.
  5. First-contributor path: logs/OPEN_QUESTIONS.md is the stated front door (“contributors start here”) — verify Q-001’s escrowed status is honestly described so the flagship question is offered, not hoarded.
  6. The author’s own privacy pass (his call entirely): anything in logs/handoffs he considers personal.

What opening buys (the record’s own words)

The clean Theory-C baseline (Q-012), the genuinely-foreign grader (Q-016), real red-team volume (falsifier #4), the end of the “one standpoint” downgrade — every deferred vantage in the project converges on this door.
