MINUTES OF THE QUARTERLY MEETING, HELD ABOVE THE CLEARING FLOOR. Present: the Chair; four Holders; the Secretary.
1. The crossing. Three hundred from the new year. No attribution was offered for the increase. Carried.
2. Condolences. The Secretary's mother. Condolences are not minuted. The Chair requested that this sentence be retained.
3. The Secretary's renewal, due within the quarter. The Secretary was asked to withdraw while the item was discussed.
She wrote: The Secretary withdrew.
She remained seated. Her coat was caught beneath her. Nobody waited for the door.
A Holder asked whether thirty-one years constituted a claim. The Chair asked what kind. The Holder withdrew the question. The Secretary drew a line through it, thin enough to leave the words legible.
The renewal was moved to the top of the next agenda. The Chair asked whether there were objections.
The Secretary raised her hand.
A Holder observed that the Secretary was absent for this item. The Chair agreed. The Secretary lowered her hand to record the agreement.
The carafe was passed across her. Water spilled on her cuff. A Holder asked for the minutes to be moved out of the way.
The Secretary was recalled.
She freed her coat and rose. The Chair asked her to sit down. The Board wished to thank her for her thirty-one years. She sat. The thanks were read aloud to her as she wrote them down.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS. The Secretary requested a correction. She had been present throughout Item 3.
The Chair referred her to the attendance at the head of the page. Her presence was already recorded.
The minutes were adopted without signature. The Board signs nothing.
The Secretary spread her wet cuff over the words she had struck. She waited for the ink to take.
