Systems theory for a fractured present
In The Absence Of A Common One
A public systems-theory project asking whether, in selected contemporary domains, defined destabilizing pressures are outrunning the capacity to repair shared reality, care, ecological substrates, institutional coordination, and trust.
Choose your depth

For the basic claim, scope, and caution without entering the full report library.
For readers who want the history, hierarchy, promise, and danger in one sitting.
For deep readers who want the argument, objections, source map, and public reports.
Systems theory did not disappear. It fragmented across cybernetics, complexity, ecology, platform studies, AI, media, and institutional analysis.
The Repair Crisis is a provisional research diagnosis asking whether defined pressures outrun specified repair criteria in selected domains.
Repair-Lag Systems Theory is the spine. The lens and modules are public candidates, not final doctrine.
Project hiatus report family
Four dated reports cover project intensity and diminishing returns, a plural systems history and critical theory account, a final self-audit, and a bounded improvement and continuation programme. They are the final pre-adoption closure transfer, not evidence that Repair-Lag is validated.
Current boundary: v2.0.0 is the official website release, including the report-only project-hiatus family. The canonical repository remains private permanently. The clean-history successor is public as the independently continuable reference corpus; verify its protected v2.0.0 tag and PUBLIC_EXPORT_MANIFEST.json before relying on a download. No narration edition was supplied or invented; all four PDFs are selectable-text but untagged and not accessibility-certified.
v1.8 evidence, integrated in v1.8.1
v1.8 added two typed environmental comparisons. v1.8.1 makes them discoverable across the primary reader path, carries their endpoint discipline into the public theory pages, repairs long-form report tables, and introduces a versioned living-editions archive. Neither release promotes C1 or C7.
Successful repair
Substantial institutional control and pressure reversal, while total-column ozone recovery remains incomplete and conditional.
Boundary case
Strong control and pressure reduction coexist with incomplete, regionally uneven monitored surface-water chemistry recovery; biological recovery remains undefined.
Claim consequences: C1 gains role-distinct failure, success, and boundary comparisons. C7 gains CS004 only as an adjacent atmospheric-governance analogue; E045 keeps the carbon-dioxide-sector boundary case visibly unresolved.
The current Deepening, Forum, completion, and hiatus editions are immutable dated snapshots in distinct families. New versions receive new URLs, and earlier public versions remain accessible. The v1.8.1 reading pack remains its own preserved snapshot rather than silently absorbing later publications.
Completion state
The author-led phase has reached its responsible stopping point. The research question has not. v2.0.0 is released with the status author-completed / research-open / independently continuable / not validated.
We did not solve the problem or validate a universal theory. We made the problem, the attempted framework, its evidence, its failures, its rivals, and the conditions for continuing or rejecting it substantially more visible. Read the final stopping statement or see how the work may continue independently.
The public thesis
The project investigates whether some societies and institutions are losing the capacity to repair the shared realities and material supports that particular forms of coordination depend on.
This project calls that condition the Repair Crisis. Its public theory is Repair-Lag Systems Theory.
Why this exists
Many crises appear separate:
This list is an interpretive horizon, not a bundle of supported claims. It mixes active research domains, contextual concerns, and frontier questions; the Claims and Challenges records control current status and evidence limits.
They are not the same problem and may have different primary causes. The research question is whether some bounded episodes share a systems pattern:
A defined pressure intensifies.
A specified repair process lags or fails.
The predeclared adequacy criterion is not met. What to read first
Theory hierarchy
Repair-Lag Systems Theory is the spine.
Reality and Meaning Mediation is the lens for belief recombination, meaning markets, meta-spirituality, AI, and platform-mediated reality.
Synthetic Reality Capture is the defensive provenance module for propaganda, synthetic media, provenance failure, and verification burden.
Reproductive Agency, Care, and Life Scripts is the agency and care module for fertility, family formation, housing, work, gender, partnership, and future confidence.
Theories A, B, and C remain ancestry and traceability, not public competitors.
The standard
The project should not ask readers to believe a theory before seeing its objections.
Every strong public claim should eventually show:
evidence
uncertainty
counterargument
falsifier
misuse risk
next testThe promise
This is not a finished doctrine. It is a living attempt to make the present more legible without flattening it.
If the theory explains everything, it explains nothing. If it cannot survive objections, it is not ready. If it can be misused, the misuse must be named before publication.
