Night Lights Ad Infinitum

by Hulki Okan Tabak · Async Art Master #2860 · lever-controlled · time rule: UTC

Night Lights Ad Infinitum — the levers as read on-chain on 2026-09-22 (our composite)

lever-controlled: 4 layers set by their holders' levers

Each layer is its own token; whoever holds it sets its lever. The Master shows what they choose.

Shuffle: 3,072 possible combinations (8 × 8 × 8 × 6: the options of its 4 lever layers, multiplied). It stacks the layers in order, as our composite does, and gives each lever layer a random option about every 5 seconds, the fixed layers kept; each picture it shows is captioned “A possible combination — not the current on-chain state”.

About the work

Night Lights Ad Infinitum is based on my night photography. It is consists of 4 layers and 8 states making 4096 unique possible final combinations. Underlying the final work are 8 separate photographs of actual night lights edited and re-created as I imagined them to be. The purpose of this work is to experiment with images. The outcome of the experiment is dependent on the observers, contributors, collectors and their relationship with the art. For in solitude, the absolute meaning, even if it exists, is not decipherable or at the very least not transferrable. But with the pieces all relating to each other, the observer creates meanings of her his own.

Files on IPFS

The viewer shows these states from display copies kept with this site (display copies, resized; the originals are on IPFS: the files below). The full-size files are on IPFS; the ones we pin are pinned at Pinata. Each file is stored on IPFS under its CID. The CID belongs to the file, not to any website, so other IPFS gateways can open it too. Three that served our files on 2026-10-17: gateway.pinata.cloud, ipfs.filebase.io, c-ipfs-gw.nmkr.io. Each file below is linked on all three, in the order to try them. Every line says what our own check found: we keep this file pinned: 33; our own copy, pinned by us and verified on upload: 1.
