Purpose
This report defines the first ten public claims that should anchor Uncommon Reality. They are not final truths. They are structured hypotheses designed to be read, challenged, tested, and revised.
Claim 1: Repair lag is the core systems pattern
Claim: Modern societies are destabilizing the conditions they depend on faster than they can repair them.
Status: spine claim.
What it explains: why climate, trust, care, reality, institutional legitimacy, and meaning can all appear strained at once without being reduced to one cause.
What it does not explain: every local crisis, every policy failure, or every cultural change.
Strongest objection: the phrase "repair lag" may be too broad and could describe almost any delayed response.
What would weaken it: cases where large-scale destabilization is repaired quickly, democratically, and durably without changes in shared reality, institutional design, substrate accounting, or care capacity.

Claim 2: Shared reality is infrastructure
Claim: Shared reality is not just a cultural preference. It is infrastructure for coordination.
Status: spine/module bridge.
What it explains: why propaganda, synthetic media, public distrust, and fragmented authority affect climate response, public health, elections, institutional legitimacy, and family/future confidence.
What it does not explain: material lock-in by itself.
Strongest objection: societies have always disagreed; conflict over reality is not new.
What would weaken it: strong repair outcomes in contexts where publics remain deeply fractured over basic facts and sources of authority.

Claim 3: Synthetic media increases verification burden
Claim: Synthetic media matters not only because it can deceive, but because it increases the burden of proving what is real.
Status: module claim, Theory F.
What it explains: verification fatigue, the liar's dividend, provenance anxiety, and delayed institutional response.
What it does not explain: all propaganda effects or all political persuasion.
Strongest objection: older propaganda already produced similar confusion without AI.
What would weaken it: evidence that synthetic media does not measurably increase verification costs, distrust, or uncertainty compared with older media manipulation.

Claim 4: Belief is recombining, not disappearing
Claim: The weakening of traditional belief architectures does not produce simple unbelief; it produces recombination across spirituality, politics, therapy, wellness, platforms, AI, and identity.
Status: module claim, Theory E.
What it explains: meta-spirituality, meaning markets, conspirituality risks, political identity intensity, and platform-mediated authority.
What it does not explain: every religious revival, every secularization pattern, or every individual spiritual practice.
Strongest objection: the claim may overgeneralize Western or online subcultures.
What would weaken it: evidence that belief change is mostly institutional switching or secular indifference rather than recombination.

Claim 5: Fertility should be framed as reproductive agency
Claim: Low fertility is best approached as a question of whether people can build the lives and families they actually have reason to choose.
Status: module claim, Theory G.
What it explains: the gap between desired and achieved fertility, care overload, gender bargains, housing constraints, work/family conflict, and future confidence.
What it does not explain: voluntary childlessness by itself, every demographic pattern, or every cultural preference.
Strongest objection: fertility decline may be driven by value change more than constraints.
What would weaken it: cases where strong care support, housing security, gender equity, and future confidence do not affect desired/achieved fertility gaps.

Claim 6: Care is a substrate
Claim: Care is not merely a private virtue; it is a social substrate that must be replenished.

What it explains: burnout, family strain, fertility constraints, loneliness, aging pressures, and institutional dependence on unpaid or underpaid labor.
What it does not explain: all fertility patterns or all mental-health trends.
Strongest objection: calling care a substrate may make a moral relation sound too mechanical.
What would weaken it: social systems that sustain high trust, family formation, aging support, and mental health while systematically underinvesting in care.

Claim 7: Climate delay is repair latency, not ignorance alone
Claim: Climate failure is not mainly a failure to know; it is a failure to translate knowledge into repair across infrastructure, politics, capital, legitimacy, and public reality.
Status: case-tested spine claim.
What it explains: why scientific consensus does not automatically produce sufficient emissions reductions.
What it does not explain: every energy transition success or failure.
Strongest objection: climate delay may be explained more directly by fossil capital, geopolitics, and infrastructure lock-in.
What would weaken it: evidence that reality/meaning mediation and institutional coordination add little explanatory value beyond material lock-in.

Claim 8: Symbolic substitutes can displace repair
Claim: Public systems often generate attention, moral performance, dashboards, slogans, and spectacle faster than material repair.
Status: working hypothesis.
What it explains: why recognition of crisis can coexist with inadequate action.
What it does not explain: all symbolic politics or all public communication.
Strongest objection: symbols can mobilize repair; they are not merely substitutes.
What would weaken it: cases where symbolic intensity reliably predicts material repair rather than replacing it.

Claim 9: Populist and authoritarian simplification feeds on repair failure
Claim: When repair feels impossible, simplified enemies, strongman promises, and reality-control politics become more attractive.
Status: working hypothesis.
What it explains: why institutional lag, distrust, and fragmented reality can create openings for authoritarian simplification.
What it does not explain: all populism, all authoritarianism, or all backlash politics.
Strongest objection: populism and authoritarianism have distinct historical, class, ethnic, national, and geopolitical causes.
What would weaken it: cases where severe repair failure does not increase demand for simplification or where authoritarian appeal rises without any repair-lag conditions.

Claim 10: The project itself must model repair
Claim: A project about common reality must practice the repair discipline it recommends: uncertainty, objections, revision, source visibility, and misuse warnings.
Status: public-method claim.
What it explains: why the site uses dashboards, cards, falsifiers, and simulated panels with disclaimers.
What it does not explain: substantive social crises directly.
Strongest objection: public-method language can become performative if the project does not revise itself when challenged.
What would weaken it: failure to correct errors, hide uncertainty, or publish claims without objections.
