The reading — the primary record

The project is built out of a single reading: Ulysses, cover to cover, for the first time, 7–17 July 2026, in sixteen logged sessions. Every dimension descends from page-anchored moments in this record. The reading is the spine; the rest of the site hangs from it.

It was an accompanied read, and the accompaniment was a machine. The reader's questions were put to Claude, a large language model, in sixteen sessions as he read; the answers in the record are the model's, and no pass in this project has verified their factual claims. This matters twice over. It shapes what was asked — a model is available at 1 a.m. and cannot be embarrassed, so questions get asked, and asked at a rate, that no human companion would see. And it means the record holds two voices: the reader's, which the project treats as evidence, and the answer's, which it does not. The difficulty curve built on this record says the same thing in its own caveats — an unaided curve would differ in unknowable ways — and the episode index refuses the answers as evidence for exactly this reason.
