Listen to the project guide for Penelope
The automatic setting uses a curated name-based English-voice preference, beginning with Ava when the reader's device offers it. Voice names and browser metadata do not establish gender, warmth, naturalness, or pronunciation quality, and Ava may not be available on this device; the narrator menu shows every available English voice. Phrases are paced separately so headings, sentences, and section breaks can breathe.

Orientation
After the men's movements and explanations, the book remains with Molly Bloom awake in bed. Her voice moves through sensation, irritation, desire, work, marriage, motherhood, loss, remembered places, and renewed choice without turning into a simple confession or a final key.
Whose voice carries the ending?
Molly Bloom's. Other people enter as remembered speech, judgment, fantasy, desire, grievance, story, or address.
Where are we?
Physically, with Molly in the Blooms' bed and house after Bloom's return. Mentally and verbally, the episode ranges through Gibraltar, Howth, Dublin streets, performance spaces, earlier homes, imagined futures, and many remembered bodies.
When does the voice unfold?
In the small hours after Bloom returns and lies beside her, across the Thursday-to-Friday overnight boundary.
What changes as Molly thinks?
A present sensation or irritation opens a chain of association; a remembered scene changes under a later judgment; one lover substitutes for another; accusation can turn toward tenderness, comedy, anger, practicality, or renewed desire.
Why does the arrangement matter?
The ending lets one voice keep revising the stories told about Molly during the day. Its long formal spans make thought audible as recurrence and transformation, while the final affirmation remains attached to memory, body, argument, and choice rather than becoming a detachable slogan.
The last word is a practice of return
Penelope repeatedly returns to names, bodies, phrases, injuries, pleasures, places, and choices, but a return does not reproduce the same meaning. Memory edits the present; present sensation edits memory; the voice can judge and then revise its own judgment. The ending's force comes from this accumulated motion, not from affirmation alone.
Breakfast, suspicion, appetite
Bloom's unusual request for breakfast leads into Molly's thoughts about his behaviour, other women, Boylan, desire, domestic work, religion, and illness.
Body, age, rivalry, performance
Molly measures bodies, attractiveness, age, clothing, rivals, performers, money, and her own capacity to command attention.
Marriage under review
Molly compares Bloom with other men and revisits sexual and domestic arrangements, grievances, intimacy, amusement, and knowledge.
Letters, secrecy, imagined alternatives
Molly thinks about letters, pseudonyms, concealment, possible lovers, travel, and imagined independence.
Menstruation and material interruption
Menstruation interrupts the movement with bodily management, discomfort, practical action, and thoughts about sex and pregnancy.
Motherhood, Milly, Rudy
Thought moves among Milly's growing independence, pregnancy and birth, maternal knowledge, and Rudy's death.
Voice, work, Gibraltar
Molly recalls singing, payment, audiences, men who listen or manage, childhood impressions, landscape, and Gibraltar.
Howth, proposal, yes
The final span returns through bodies, flowers, sea, Howth, Bloom's proposal, Molly's choice, and repeated affirmation.
