Exposures: Land. Images © Hulki Okan Tabak, 2024–2025. Third book of the Exposures series. The sixty plates are not photographs — no camera was used and no place was visited. They were generated in Midjourney and finished in Adobe Photoshop, from prompts written, selected, and edited by the author, November 2024–January 2025. Where the land resembles a real coast or mountain, the resemblance is the machine’s memory of a thousand photographs, not a record of any single place.

Dedicated to Ansel Adams: not photographs, yet living inside the black-and-white landscape tradition he defined — the long-exposure water, the tonal sublime — the lineage this work both honours and departs from. The epigraph, Mitákuye Oyásʼiŋ (“All my relations”), is a traditional Lakota prayer of kinship with all things; its reach — kinship extended to stone and water — is this book’s quiet subject. Made in collaboration with Claude (Anthropic), which helped name the works and shape the sequence and this front matter.

Tone. Monochrome — neutral black-and-white and, in several plates, warm-toned in the selenium-and-sepia tradition of the silver print; managed end-to-end (sRGB) so screen and page reproduce as faithfully as the media allow.
