All sixty images were generated in Midjourney and finished in Adobe Photoshop, from prompts written by the author in January 2026. They are AI-generated images, not photographs. The made-ness is the subject — these read as defaced paintings, and the colophon does not pretend otherwise.

The book is inspired by Allen Ginsberg’s Howl (1956) and is named for Carl Solomon, the poem’s dedicatee. The introduction is an imagined fiction: an invented first-person monologue, not Carl Solomon’s words, speaking from a present-day Rockland as a metaphor for the dilemma of now.

The book was made in collaboration with Claude (Anthropic), which helped name the works and shape the sequence and this front matter, consistent with the author’s practice (“— with Claude”).

Titles are the author’s own; several thread the word Rockland — the asylum named in Howl, itself a poetic invention (Solomon was admitted to Pilgrim State, not Rockland) — and other real words (Moloch, Greystone) as doors, not labels.

Colour note. colour is managed end-to-end (sRGB) so screen and page reproduce as faithfully as the media allow. Some shift between a screen and a printed page is unavoidable and expected.
