Exposures: Anima. Images © Hulki Okan Tabak, 2024–2026. First book of the Exposures series.

All sixty images were generated in Midjourney and finished in Adobe Photoshop, from prompts written by the author in December 2024. They are AI-generated images, not photographs, made as an homage to early GAN art — the fuzzy, woollen, tintype look of the first machine-vision pictures, which hallucinated faces out of static, beautiful and wrong in a way since polished away. The working name and file-tags carried “GAN” for that lineage; no GAN produced these.

The book was made in collaboration with Claude (Anthropic), which helped name the works and shape the sequence and this front matter.

Titles are the author’s own; a few carry older names (Orpheus, Iris, a Golem, a Vanitas) offered as doors, not labels.

Colour note. These images live in saturated and in near-monochrome registers; colour is managed end-to-end (sRGB) so that screen and page reproduce as faithfully as the media allow. Some shift between a screen and a printed page is unavoidable and expected.

Published as a fixed-layout volume; the page is a composition and is not reflowed.
